Appreciating others helps extend the reign of God in the world. 3/12/26. Chima Offurum.

Those who claimed in today’s Gospel (Luke 11:14-23) that Jesus was acting “by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons” leave us with an important lesson. We live in a world where many people struggle to acknowledge their limitations or recognize what they themselves cannot accomplish. Sadly, when individuals refuse to acknowledge the good others accomplish, they close themselves off to learning and growth. By denying what others have done, they draw a line not only against the truth but also against their own opportunity to grow through humility.

The lesson for us is clear. In life, no person holds a monopoly on every gift or ability. Given that, we see true humility when we acknowledge and appreciate what another person has accomplished, especially in areas where we ourselves may fall short. During this sacred season, we ask God to teach us humility. As Christ humbled Himself and became obedient even unto death on the Cross of Calvary, may we learn from His example so that, through humility and grace, we may rise in glory as people being perfected and called to extend the reign of God in the world.
