About Faithful Leadership & Committed Followership. 09/21/25. Chima Offurum.

Today’s liturgy vividly reflects the role of leadership in our communities and globally, deriving from the crucial second reading from the second letter to Timothy (2 Tim 2:1-8). One clear message we must understand is that leadership is not for everyone; some were born to lead, and others learned to be leaders. Between leadership and the affairs of the state and our communities are the rest of us. Since we cannot all be leaders, some must be followers, who must carry out the orders from leaders.

Today, the Church asks us to pray for our leaders in the State, the Church, and everyone. There are so many responsibilities on everyone’s shoulders, and everybody has to do their part to make things work for the good of all. As we celebrate this Sunday’s Eucharist, and following St. Paul’s directives and request, we lift everyone in prayer that God, who has begun the great work of rebuilding our cities and our lives through each of us, may bring them all to fruition. Amen.
