Leaders take responsibility and are engaging. 07/23/25. Chima Offurum.

Leadership plays a vital role in the smooth functioning of any organization or community. In today’s first reading from the Book of Exodus (16:1-5; 9-15), we witness the people’s revolt against Moses and how his response becomes a powerful example of true leadership. Authentic leaders take responsibility; they acknowledge when things go wrong and open honest conversations with all involved to explore ways of improving difficult situations.

Rather than rushing to assign blame, good leaders take time to understand the processes that led to specific outcomes. This deeper engagement enables them to guide and support their teams in exploring ideas that may lead to real solutions. In today’s reading, we find these qualities in Moses’ leadership model among the Israelites.

We also find another image of leadership in the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:1-9). I’ll push up that reflection for tomorrow, since the gospel continues beyond today. Let us pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we embrace leadership roles in our homes, workplaces, and communities.
