Today we celebrate the memorial of Saint Ignatius of Antioch, the third Bishop of Antioch and the first to call the universal body of Christ the “Catholic Church.” St. Ignatius was arrested under Emperor Trajan, and he was later dragged to the Colosseum in Rome by soldiers, who killed him around 107 AD. On his journey, he wrote seven letters urging unity under the bishop, fidelity to the Eucharist, and love in the life of the Church. His faith reminds us to go beyond turning to God only in times of trials but also in joy, offering thanksgiving in the Eucharist of His Body and Blood for His blessings and continued grace.
