Saint Teresa of Jesus is the same as St. Thérèse of Lisieux. She was a French Discalced Carmelite nun, venerated in our times as the Little Flower of Jesus.
Before now, I had thought that the saying that “what matters in life is not great deeds, but great love” was original to St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta. Even though both saints share the same personal theology and name, that saying is attributed more to St. Terese of Jesus, who lived and died about a hundred years before Mother Theresa.
Another popular saying of St. Teresa of Jesus is that “holiness consists simply in doing God’s will, and being just what God wants us to be.”
I invite you to reflect on these sayings today and ask yourself what they would mean for you, who are called in our times, to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
