Openness in Curiosity Transforms Wonder into Opportunities for Learning. (Wednesday in Week Fifteen of the Ordinary Time). 07/16/25. Chima Offurum.

Human curiosity is a powerful force that often leads to moments of revelation and transformation, as seen in Moses’ decision to approach the burning bush in today’s first reading. His awe and wonder at what he saw revealed how natural it is to seek understanding when confronted with the extraordinary. Yet, it was not merely curiosity that mattered; Moses’ willingness to listen also opened the way for a divine encounter.

Moses’ openness, similar to that echoed in Matthew’s gospel (11:25-29), reminds us that God reveals His truth not to the arrogant or the self-assured, but to those who, like the childlike, are receptive and humble. True wonder leads not just to questions, but to silence and reverence, both of which are avowed spaces where God speaks.

In the Matthean narrative, Jesus praises the Father for revealing His mysteries to the childlike, showing that the knowledge of God is not about intellectual mastery but about a heart ready to listen. Moses’ initial curiosity would have been incomplete without his availability response, “Here I am,” and his willingness to remove his sandals in humility.

Following Moses, the Church invites us today to approach God not just with questions but with readiness to learn. Listening with openness transforms wonder into wisdom and curiosity into calling. In this, we understand that divine revelation flows not through mastery, but through surrender to the One who reveals what the world cannot see.
